Che Sehuyun

Corean American Artist, Che Sehyun, works through songs, stories, photos and film that reflect his culture, lived experience, and our collective indigenous roots. His work aims to inspire future generations to experience the importance of our cultural heritage and responsibility of self-cultivation. Che’s artistic process comes from facing the uncomfortable realities of our globalized world, understanding his gift and purpose, and honoring those
who came before and those who will come after. The first generation in his family line to
be born outside of Corea in perhaps over 40,000 years, Che learns from and supports
his ancient Corean culture of Buddhism, Taoism and Shamanism, which permeate his
artistry and life ways."

Musical Projects

G’Ma Project

The Grandma Project features talented Seattle artists who will compose a group of original songs, perform a multi-generational concert-series and produce a music video/documentary, which honors our ancestors by passing down their wisdom to future generations.  (Look up Grandma Project on GoFundMe.com and visit www.SOBEBA.com for more info.)

The Kimchi Song Music Video

Please enjoy the Kimchi Song & Music video—I hope it inspires you to learn more about your elders, cultures and ancestors—and ultimately yourself—and you share that with the world!  This music video was birthed from the #GmaProject and is dedicated to my maternal G’ma, 기순김 (Kim Ki Soon).  Cultivating ourselves in a good way is the greatest gift we have and can offer to others, so I encourage you to learn the ancient recipes, take your time, and become better with age—just like KIMCHI! Haha

This project was supported by grants from the City of Seattle's Office of Art and Culture and 4Culture.
